Martha Kirkland West, a professor emerita of trainer schooling at Catawba College, died on August 26. She taught at the faculty from 1965 to 1981 and later wrote A College of Our Own: The First 150 Years of Catawba College (2001).

Hobson Wildenthal, a professor of physics and former provost at the University of Texas at Dallas, died on September 4. He was 83.

Jo Watts Williams, a vp emerita at Elon University, died on September 16. She was 92. Earlier this yr, the Dr. Jo Watts Williams School of Education was named in her honor.
