“I’m from Fiji, but we have Indian blood, and it is a very big day for us,” Kumar stated.

“We dedicate it to our children because they are the future.”

In India, Independence Day was a nationwide vacation with flag-raising ceremonies and varied cultural programmes held within the state capitals.

Independence Day marked the tip of British rule in India in 1947. Prior to this the British had dominated since 1757.

The day additionally marked partition of the subcontinent into two international locations, India and Pakistan. In Pakistan, Independence Day is widely known on August 14.

Five different international locations celebrated their independence on August 15 – Bahrain, North Korea, South Korea and Liechtenstein.
