South Canterbury Rugby Chief government officer Craig Calder is seen making a gesture suggesting that they’re in no hurry to finalise (inform) the new team name earlier than the graduation of the Heartlands 2021 season as they’re eager to search out an apt name that’s long run and displays South Canterbury area.
South Canterbury rugby is on the hunt to discover a new name for their Heartland team which shall be reflective of the area and depict the values of the organisation.
The search for the team name, started in late July by way of a publish “What’s Our Name?” on their social media platform the place the general public had been inspired to offer name strategies.
South Canterbury Rugby Union chief government officer Craig Calder stated it had been having a new name for fairly a while.
“The union has been looking at having a modern name for the team that also reflects our region,” Calder stated.
“This year we decided to explore some options and asked the public to make name suggestions…
“It is about modernising the marketing strategy of the team.”
The choice panel consisting of life members, supporters membership and present and former gamers, and team administration narrowed down the 200 plus strategies to 9 names.
“We had nearly 200 suggestions and the panel reduced it to nine names and the public will vote to help us find the name,” Calder stated.
The public can now solid their votes on the 9 chosen names that they really feel finest displays the team and represents the area.
The names which have made it into the voting section are – Flyers, Stingers, Stallions, Porters, Mountain Rangers, Scorpions, Green Machines, Karearea and Kara.
Calder provides that the ultimate determination rests in the panel as they’re trying on the longer image, with public votes amounting to 25 per cent say.
“We are hoping to finalise the name in about two weeks time,” Calder stated.
“The board is not fully committed to it if the panel of judges cannot decide on the name.
“We might not even use the name for the season, as we want to ensure the name is right and can be used on a long term basis. So we are not concerned about announcing the name before the competition begins.
“We want the name to be reflective of what the region is all about, and we want to spend time on the process of getting the right name. We will be using South Canterbury Green and Blacks until then.”
Calder added that although the team would come out with a new name, they’d hold the unique crest of South Canterbury Rugby.
“The crest would not be touched.
“Depending on the name, specific look and logo will be designed, however we will never lose the historical identity. The logo with the name will be built into the original crest.”
South Canterbury start their Heartland’s marketing campaign in opposition to North Otago at White Stone Contracting Stadium, Oamaru at 2.30pm on Saturday.
The one who recommended the profitable name, as judged by the panel, will obtain a Swanndri wool hoodie and a season cross to all Heartland residence video games.
