Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart has agreed to a four-year, $77 million contract extension, sources advised ESPN.

The extension — which begins with the 2022-23 season — is the utmost allowable off Smart’s $14.3 million wage for 2021-22. The deal doesn’t embody a participant choice.

Smart has developed into one of many franchise’s most essential gamers, an elite defender and competitor who has twice been voted to NBA All-Defensive first groups.

Smart has performed his total seven-year profession with the Celtics, who drafted him sixth general in 2014.
